"Governance that is ethical, pragmatic and anchored in long-term value — that is the standard I applied on a bank board, and it is the standard we apply to every NRI file."
Dr. Gupta is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with more than thirty years across banking governance, public finance, audit oversight and strategic advisory. He founded Kumar Ashwani & Associates in 1988; the firm became one of the earliest chartered accountancy practices in the region to earn ISO 9001 certification — an early signal of the systems-led approach NRI Guidance runs on today.
He has served as Director on the Board of State Bank of Patiala, chairing its Audit Committee and sitting on the Risk Management, Fraud Prevention, Executive and Customer Service Committees. That work — strengthening credit appraisal, internal controls and audit quality to regulatory standards — is why our clients' money movements, property transactions and tax positions are documented to a bank-grade level.
He has advised Central and State Government bodies, including the Ministry of MSME (PPP Committee) and the Department of NRI Affairs, Government of Punjab, alongside senior officials from NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Finance; served on the Steel Consumers Council, Ministry of Steel; and has been a member and Special Invitee of the Direct Taxes Committee and other committees of the ICAI.
His executive education spans Harvard University, Saïd Business School (Oxford), The Wharton School, the London School of Economics and IIM Lucknow, and he holds a Doctorate in Economics & Finance. He trains Independent and Government Directors of public-sector enterprises, writes and speaks on governance and taxation, convenes the Indo-Tajik Friendship Forum, and has travelled with Presidential business delegations to Switzerland and Austria.
